Gigovic Crowned National Champion Twice

Last weekend the Speedo Canadian Open took place at the Kinsmen Sports Center in Edmonton. The meet attracted 350 of the best swimmers from across Canada.
Killarney was represented by a contingent of 4: Matea Gigovic, Megan L’Heureux, Alan Piatek, Maya Share.
Claiming her own and Killarney’s First Ever National Title was Matea Gigovic! The Speedy Gigovic set an Open Record on route to an impressive 50 fly crowning. The next day Matea was Golden in the 100 fly 59.82 setting another Open Record and KSC Club Record. She also advanced to A Finals in the 50 Free and 100 Free.
Megan L’Heureux qualified for the A Final in the 50 breaststroke and B Final in the 100m.
Alan Piatek advanced to the A final in the 200 Fly, and B Finals in the 50 Fly and 100 Fly.
Maya Share broke the 15-17 KSC Club Record in the 200 BK and advanced to the B Final.
This season Swimming Canada restructured it’s competition formats. This was the first Open Nationals other than SNC Trials in several decades. The racing was Fast and Exciting.
