Last weekend at the Kinsmen Sports Center, Edmonton, the AB Winter Provincial Championships took place.  There were over 500 swimmers at the meet.

Killarney was represented by a contingent of 40 swimmers.

KSC swimmers performed outstanding, posting 275 personal best times, 19 Club Records, while earning 41 medals (15 Gold)!   

Leading the way was Matea Gigovic.  Gigovic won 4 individual gold (100 Fly, 50 Fr, 100 Fr, 50 Fly).  She also medaled in the 50Bk, 200 Free, and 100 Back.  Matea broke club records for 15-17 and Senior 100 Fly with a time of 59.89.  More records achieved in the 15-17 girls 50 Back and 200 Back. Matea was awarded the 16-year-old girls championship aggregate trophy and was awarded the top female FINA points swim of the meet.

Leading the men, was Alan Piatek.  Piatek won 6 individual events (100 Fly, 50 Bk, 200 Bk, 100 Bk, 100 Fr, 50 Fl) and medaled in the 50 Free and 50 Breast.  The 100 Back, 50 Fly, 100 Fly were new Club Records.

Sophie Holowaychuk earned gold in the 13 & under 200 Backstroke.  Nicole L’Heureux was the top finisher in the 13 & Under 200 Free.  Brooklyn Rideout surprised everyone with a 100 Fly win on day 1 of the competition.  As an 11-year-old, Sophia Shpak placed first in the 100 Breast 13 & under.  Soren Young stepped up to win the 15-year-old 200 Breast category.

In the Youth Recognition T-shirt program, the following swimmers were awarded TOP 10: Evelyn Washbrook, Nicole L’Heureux, Megan L’Heureux, Alan Piatek, Sophie Holowaychuk, Soren Young.  Earning TOP 1 T-shirt was Matea Gigovic and Sophia Shpak

The team finished 5th in the overerall team scoring.
